Gardens Reimagined
The garden beds throughout this property were designed to add unique, beautiful landscaping.
This property featured several large beds that had little to no landscaping and areas where the client’s had difficulty growing ornamental species. Overall, the goal of this project was to create a sustainable, vibrant landscape. A variety of native plants were installed to increase pollinator resources, enhance groundcover, and beautify the property.
The backyard featured a large hillside garden bed. English Ivy, an invasive vine common in residential landscaping, had originally covered this hill. The ivy had been previously removed and a black tarp placed overtop the bed. Feather and Fern placed fifteen native plants on this hillside! What was an area covered in an invasive vine is now a diverse landscape! Additionally, the original border made with railroad ties was replaced with a carefully crafted wall made with colonial grey stacking stones.
Another small garden in the backyard was updated with native plants and a stone border. This bed features six different species of shade-loving native plants!
Before
After
The front and side garden beds of this project had limited landscaping previously. Feather and Fern’s design reimagined these spaces as vibrant gardens with unique plant structures. Certain plants, like little bluestem, were installed throughout the beds to create consistent and interesting focal points. Various flower colors and bloom periods will keep these garden beds looking beautiful through the entire growing season.
The photos below showcase the gardens before and after installation in its first summer.
